SIT is here to help you achieve your academic and career goals. By choosing SIT, you will get the best of both worlds. Not only will you gain a challenging academic education, you will also gain real-world experience thanks to our strong links with industry and employers. It  combines  the best of tradition with cutting-edge technology. With a history dating back to the 1880s, SIT has a proud record of quality education and training. It  has also gained a reputation for innovation, developing New Zealand-leading qualifications, facilities and opportunities for students.

With over 13,000 students and more than 200 programmes, SIT offers  wide range of academic, technical and professional subjects at postgraduate, graduate, bachelor, diploma and certificate levels. SIT is a member of the International Association of Universities. SIT is large enough to offer you variety and a student culture, yet small enough to retain a friendly atmosphere and personalised learning with small class sizes. Unlike many other institutions, SIT doesn't have lots of different fees and charges: its course fee and resource fee covers the vast majority of services students will need.

SIT’s three main campuses are located in Invercargill with other campuses located in Queenstown, Gore, Christchurch and Auckland. Students can study from anywhere in New Zealand and the world via SIT’s distance education faculty, SIT2LRN.

Combined with your dedication, it  will help you achieve your academic and career goals – whatever they may be.

Student accommodation

SIT is pleased to provide all international students with two weeks accommodation on arrival. Your two weeks stay also includes meals.

You can stay with an approved Kiwi Homestay at Invercargill, Queenstown and Christchurch campuses. During your two weeks accommodation, you will be provided with breakfast, a packed lunch and an evening meal. Please note that if you choose to stay in a homestay, a minimum six week stay applies. If you do not wish to stay in a Homestay, you can choose to stay at the Grand Hall of Residence in Invercargill or approved accommodation in Queenstown and Christchurch.

SIT has one hall of residence, the Grand Hall of Residence, a former hotel, catering for around 80 students. SIT also offers accommodation, primarily for international students, at the SIT Apartments. Living Space at The Tower is purpose-built student accommodation, and homestay is available for international students.

SIT Apartments

The SIT Apartments are an apartment complex specifically for international students. You will live in a single or two-room apartment with attached living area, kitchen and bathroom. You can choose to share a room or may be asked to share depending on availability of accommodation. Units are spacious and self contained; kitchen utensils are provided. There is a shared laundry on-site. SIT apartments are located in central Invercargill city. You will only be a 5 - 10 minute walk from SIT’s campuses.

Homestays

SIT administers a network of approved homestay hosts, local Kiwi families who host international students. Homestays are the perfect way to introduce yourself to New Zealand; not only will you improve your English, you will also learn about Kiwi culture and become an important part of a local family. You will have your own room and access to shared family facilities. Meals are provided

Private Accommodation

In addition to SIT accommodation, there is a large range of other accommodation options that you can choose from, including the Ibis Style Hotel, Karon Court, Dan Davin Village and Kelvin House. You can also choose to rent a room in a private home or flat. Prices can vary from $85 to $200 for one room in Invercargill. Check the website for more information on these options.
