The Wellington Institute of Technology, or WelTec is a public New Zealand polytechnic based in Petone, Lower Hutt. It was formed by an amalgamation between the Central Institute of Technology and the Hutt Valley Polytechnic in 2001. Hutt Valley Polytechnic was established in 1904.
It is a leading provider of certificates, diplomas and graduate diplomas in around 140 courses in disciplines ranging from hospitality, business, information technology, visual arts, counselling, engineering and construction. WelTec's main campus is in Petone, Lower Hutt; it also has campuses in Wellington, Auckland and Christchurch.

Undergraduate qualifications
If you want to study towards a Bachelor Degree (excluding teaching degrees), Certificate of Proficiency, Undergraduate Certificate or Diploma, or Graduate Certificate or Diploma you must have one of the following:
• IELTS Academic with an average score of 6.0, with a minimum of 5.5 in reading, writing, listening and speaking
Postgraduate qualifications
If you want to study towards a postgraduate qualification, eg a Postgraduate Diploma, Masters, or PhD you must have one of the following:
• IELTS Academic with an average score of 6.5, with a minimum of 6.0 in reading, writing, listening and speaking
Foundation or certificate programmes
NCEA LEVEL 1 or are a mature student with the required skills
Diploma programmes
NCEA LEVEL 2 or 3 or a relevant certificate qualification or are a mature student with the required skills
Undergraduate degree programmes
Degree entry requirements or a relevant diploma qualification or are a mature student with the required skills
Postgraduate programmes
An undergraduate degree or graduate diploma/certificate
Masters programmes
Postgraduate diploma or certificate plus relevant work experience
STUDENT ACCOMMODATION
There is a range of accommodation options available to you when you study here.. See the websites for information about short and long-term accommodation options. If a student is under the age of 18 it is a Code of Practice requirement that the student be in the care of a residential caregiver.
You an either opt for a home stay or rent students apartments.
Various options are available. It is better to opt for a short term accommodation and then look out for the best suited for your needs.
