Organizing accommodation is one of the most important things you need to do before arriving in Wellington. HALLS OF RESIDENCE Living in a hall means you will be part of a friendly and supportive community of students from different backgrounds and interests. Some halls are fully catered and others have kitchens for self-catering. All halls provide support for students and facilities for recreation and study. Living in a hall also provides the opportunity to make new friends and live alongside students from all over the world. Every hall works hard to provide a warm and welcoming sense of community—both within the hall and with other halls. Social events are held across all halls throughout the year, and individual halls organize their own activities too. If you are going to be under the age of 18 when you start studying at Victoria, you must apply for either home stay accommodation or a room in a catered hall. Self-catered halls are not available for under-18 students. OTHER ACCOMMODATION The Accommodation Service can also help students find private accommodation. You may choose to rent a room in an existing flat, set up your own flat with a group of friends or board with a family. Home stay accommodation is also available for students enrolled in English language courses or Foundation Studies. The home stay experience will help you develop your English language skills. You are provided with a furnished bedroom in a suburban home with meals, but you may be further from campus so transport costs may be higher. If you are not able to move directly into your hall or home stay when you arrive in Wellington the Accommodation Service can give you advice about your temporary accommodation options. For further information on private, home stay or temporary accommodation, check out the Accommodation Service website, www.victoria.ac.nz/accommodation
