The Waikato Institute of Technology, also known as Wintec, is one of New Zealand's leading institute of technology based in Hamilton. Approximately 20,000 students from 52 countries study at Wintec each year, and the organisation employs around 840 staff. The institute currently provides 10 degree programmes, 35 diplomas and 12 postgraduate qualifications. The institute has three main campuses in Hamilton itself: the main city site, Rotokauri (Formerly Avalon) in north Hamilton, and the Hamilton Gardens horticultural campus. Undergraduate qualifications If you want to study towards a Bachelor Degree (excluding teaching degrees), Certificate of Proficiency, Undergraduate Certificate or Diploma, or Graduate Certificate or Diploma you must have one of the following: • IELTS Academic with an average score of 6.0, with a minimum of 5.5 in reading, writing, listening and speaking Postgraduate qualifications If you want to study towards a postgraduate qualification, eg a Postgraduate Diploma, Masters, or PhD you must have one of the following: • IELTS Academic with an average score of 6.5, with a minimum of 6.0 in reading, writing, listening and speaking
Students must be 18 at the start of the course. • International students must hold a secondary school completion certificate equivalent to 12 years of schooling in New Zealand and must meet the academic and any additional requirements for their chosen course.
The Wintec International Centre has an accommodation placement service on offer to International Students. This makes finding accommodation in Hamilton easier, especially if it's your first time in New Zealand. Wintec Student Village Wintec Student Village is a fully catered facility situated at 181 Collingwood Street, a five minute walk from downtown Hamilton and the City Campus and approximately a 10-15 minute drive from the Rotokauri or Hamilton Gardens Campuses. The Student Village is suited to first year students studying at Wintec and is staffed to provide you with a safe, secure and comfortable living environment (including 24 hour security cameras) as well as offering a programme of community plus social activities. The Student Village has a shared lounge/recreation area with Sky TV, games room and a full kitchen/cooking facilities, laundry, BBQ and deck area for use by residents. Wintec Apartments Wintec Apartments offer a modern, self-catered style of accommodation situated in a three-level apartment complex building located on the Wintec City Campus. Services include telephone for local calls and full access to Wintec’s high speed wireless internet available free to students staying in the apartments. Security features include - swipe card access into your own apartment and into your individual room, sitewide CCTV and Wintec security patrols. Homestay Homestay is where you stay with New Zealand families, in their homes. Homestay hosts are carefully selected for their kind and caring nature. You will get to improve your English by talking to them; you will also be able to enjoy family activities, celebrations, religious practices and sporting events.
